MCT edge table-top cracker

MCT 4 Golf Inn 3

MCT SQUARED up to the unbeaten Golf Inn on a sticky pitch at Broomfield in a much anticipated top of the table league clash. They made the better start with a shot from distance from Candy that went just wide.

Golfie came close in 15 minutes when a header by Lamb from a corner skimmed over the bar.

Golf Inn took the lead six minutes later with a shot from 25 yards from RODGERS. Stand-in ‘keeper Mennie reckoned it was going wide and he could only watch the ball flash past him.

Mennie was lucky minutes later when he raced out of his goal to bring down an attacker but was only booked, despite protests from the Golf Inn.

MCT almost got an equaliser after a great mazy run from Hood but his final pass was a tad high and McPherson could only knee the ball into the ‘keeper’s hands.

Five minutes from the interval MCT got the equaliser their hard work deserved. Hood passed to Grant McPHERSON who from 20 yards blasted the ball in off the bar for a stunning equaliser.

Two minutes later a good pass from Hood allowed the prolific CANDY to score from close in.

MCT were firing on all cylinders and just before half-time STRIDGEON at the edge of the box curled a majestic shot into the top corner.

Half-time: MCT 3, Golf Inn 1.

Candy shot straight at the ‘keeper just into the second half then Golf inn had a chance but also shot at the ‘keeper.

MCT were making plenty of chances but it was Golf Inn that scored the next goal after an hour with a good run from midfield and a good finish past Mennie.

Golf Inn pressed on, looking for an equaliser, but MCT defended resolutely.

They increased their lead in 72 minutes after a long ball was head flicked on by McPherson to HOOD who raced clear and showed great control to beat a defender and send a great finish past Elgin for his first goal for MCT.

The unbeaten Golfie threw everything they had at the MCT defence but rookie Mennie in goals coped well.

In injury time Golf Inn were awarded a penalty when McLean decided to play basketball in the box and DUNCAN scored from the spot.

MCT were delighted to leapfrog Golf Inn and Hudsons to go top of the league again.
