MONTROSE are further up the Third Division table than they have been in years after climbing into third place.

Montrose faced Berwick Rangers on Saturday in the only Third Division game to go ahead due to inclement weather.

Despite Berwick taking an early lead after nine minutes the Gable Endies responded with two early first half goals from Leighton McIntosh and Jamie Winter.

Second half goals from Scott Johnston and Lloyd Young sealed the deal.

Manager Stuart Garden said: “We only have a small squad but the players’ confidence is growing and the important thing is that they are all working hard for each other.

“We are now looking forward to the home game against Rangers in a couple of weeks which looks like a potential top-of-the-table clash.

“We were under no illusions before the match that it would be a difficult one, so coming out of it with a victory like this after falling behind speaks volumes for the players.”

This Saturday Montrose face another away day to East Stirlingshire.

There is still not much between the teams in the Third Division but East Stirling are currently 10 points behind Montrose.

They are five points ahead of Stirling Albion who are propping up the table with just seven points.

Above these teams, Rangers are at the top of the table, two points ahead of Elgin City and Montrose who both have 22 points.

Meanwhile, spaces are still available for hospitality for the match against Berwick Rangers on January 2.
