MONTROSE FC have stretched their unbeaten run to four matches in a row following a 1-1 draw against Queen’s Park on Saturday, writes Sarah McLean.
Despite a very early goal from Lloyd Young, Montrose were unable to capitalise on their advantage and Queen’s Park drew level on the hour mark.
Although the home side had a few chances towards the end of the game a point was all they could get.
Montrose boss Stuart Garden said: “Obviously we got off a great start with a goal from Lloyd Young just 40 seconds in.
“But after that we did not play well and didn’t have the strongest first half. Saying that, Queen’s Park didn’t really have any chances either.
“After the early goal went in we wanted to kick on but it didn’t happen and Queen’s Park had more of the game.
“They scored with a good strike but we could have done more to stop it before the guy got his shot in.”
Looking ahead to this Saturday’s league encounter with Peterhead, Garden said: “Hopefully we will be able to keep our unbeaten run going now.
“We have been able to get good results and even when we have not been playing so well the players have the confidence now to grind out a result.
With Peterhead just a point ahead of Montrose in the league despite being three places above them, the Gable Endies know this is their chance to go higher.
Garden said: “The league is so tight right now.
“The players have the incentive of going above Peterhead in the league if they win. A win could take us into fourth place.”
Kick-off for the Peterhead game at Links Park will be at 3pm on Saturday.
