MONTROSE have sailed into the play-off positions after defeating Peterhead 2-0 on Saturday.

Sitting on equal points with Queen’s Park, the Gable Endies are hoping that another win this weekend against Berwick Rangers will see them stay near the top of the table.

Montrose looked by far the stronger team against Peterhead and manager Stuart Garden was thrilled with the result. “I am delighted to get the three points and it was thoroughly deserved, especially on our first-half performance.

“They had a few shots from distance but didn’t create much inside the box.

“I think Bavidge came close early on but that’s all I can really remember from them.”

Garden continued: “I’m pleased to be in the play-off positions but it is still early days.

“I knew my players had the ability and now they are starting to believe themselves.

“The play-offs are our target and at the moment we are there on merit as out performances in the last six or seven games have been really good.”

He added: “I think we should have been further up actually as we should have won the first three games this season. But to be in the position we are in after 13 games is great.”

The manager also had high praise for Garry Wood who scored the first goal against Peterhead before assisting Terry Masson with the second. He said: “I’m delighted with Woody. I’ve known him for a long time and know he can do a good job.

“He’s an absolute nightmare for defenders.”

Now Montrose are looking ahead to this weekend’s away clash against Berwick Rangers but Garden says they are going in with confidence: “We’ve got a lot of confidence going into this one and we know we have a good record against Berwick.

“They have done well at home but we know we can do a job against them.”

A win for the Links Park men and a draw or defeat for Queen’s Park could see the Links Park side climb higher still.

At present, the Gable Endies are only five points behind league leaders Rangers.
