Montrose Football Club gave myself and my staff the opportunity to manage the club for season 2014-15 and our main aim was to be challenging for a play-off spot at the end of the season. Down to hard work, on and off the park, we are confident we can achieve our goal.
The first part of the season, leading up to Christmas, was somewhat of a roller-coaster ride, our first cup game was against Peterhead at home in the Petrofac training cup, which we lost, after a very tough game, to the league champions from last season. We then went on to play a Falkirk side that narrowly missed promotion to the Premier League, and we adapted ourselves very well to the task, being unfortunate to lose on the day.
This set us up for our league challenge, where we won our first two league games and were sitting in second place in the league when we travelled to play our neighbours.
Unfortunately we lost this game to an Arbroath team that were in good form.In our next four league games, before we were to play Arbroath in the Scottish Cup, we managed another two wins out of the four, so were still sitting in a play-off spot.
The Scottish cup game was to be a long drawn-out affair, with both games ending up in draws and eventually we lost the tie in extra-time.
Now our main aim, leading up to the festive period, was to gain as many points as we could to keep us in touch for the challenge that will lie ahead in the New Year. We have managed to achieve this and now hope to push on into 2015 and get back into the play-off positions.
We will also add to the squad, in the January transfer window, if the right player comes along.
We would like to thank our trusted supporters for their support for the first part of the season and would hope that they will continue supporting the club for our push in the second, and most important, half of the season, More supporters are more than welcome to come to our home games in the new year, to help us achieve our goal .
I have said all along that if you can be consistent you will not be far away at the end of the season, because on their day, any team in this division can beat any other one. That is why the league will go right to the wire and the competition for the remaining play-off positions will be just as fierce.
We as a club, for the first half of the season, have had highs and lows just like others in the division, but one thing is certain - myself and all my backroom staff will give it our all till the end of the season. Hopefully, the hard work and commitment that everyone has put in so far will pay off and make the 2014-15 season a memorable one.
Directors, management and staff of Montrose Football Club would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.
