Montrose Roselea crash out of Scottish Cup against Super League giants Bonnyrigg Rose

Montrose Roselea bowed out of the Scottish Junior Cup after coming up against a free scoring and admittingly superior opposition in Super League outfit Bonnyrigg Rose.

A poor start to the game gave Roselea a mountain to climb and their Super League opponents ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.

A Nelson free kick was headed home by Moyes to set the home team on their way.

After seven minutes Gray made a good run down the right wing and found Kidd who headed home at the far post.

The tie was effectively over after 10 minutes when Gray ran on to a through ball and finished with aplomb.

Roselea did begin to show a little more after the disastrous start but couldn’t quite create any clear cut opportunities as Greig up top became more and more isolated as the half progressed.

Bonnyrigg kept up the sustained pressure and added a fourth when Stewart found McGachie to score with another header for Bonnyrigg.

Ex-Airdrie player Gray tried his luck 30 yards out and the strike took a deflection and looped into the top corner.

Roselea came out for the second half trying to gather some respectability towards the scoreline.

Mowatt showed great determination to win the ball and slipped the ball into Greig who slid home to give the small travelling crowd something to cheer.

The away team almost got another back when Cruickshank had a shot well saved and as the rebound came back to Greig his effort came crashing back off the crossbar.

McLeod pulled off his second top class save of the match, tipping over a close range shot from McIntosh.

Dalgarno then cleared off the line from a Mclaren effort after 70 minutes.

Bonnyrigg got their sixth just after when Mclaren struck home from close range following another good move down the right.

Montrose officials would like to thank Rose for their hospitality.
