MONTROSE FC have made their first summer signing with the capture of centre half Jonathan Smart from second division East Fife.

The 31-year-old Dundonian had spent five seasons at Methil, making over 150 appearances.

Jonathan, who had been offered new terms at New Bayview, picked up the SPFA and Sports Writers’ Player of the Year awards for the Third Division in season 2007-08 and is a prolific goal scorer for a central defender. He stepped up to Raith Rovers from Dee Club in June 2004 and started 2005-06 with Dundee amateur side Rowantree before moving to Methil.

Striker Sean Pierce, who joined Montrose in late March from junior side Port Glasgow, has also put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Links Park after scoring twice in seven appearances.
