Both players signed one-year contract extensions earlier this week.

Johnston said: “I’m glad I’ll be staying with the club as I really enjoyed my first season here.

“We’ve got a really good squad, I just think we’ve maybe under performed, so hopefully we can get a good push on next season.”

Campbell was similarly delighted to sign on at the club for another season. He said: “Obviously I’m very happy to be staying and looking forward to trying to improve on this year’s performances.

“I think there have been signs of improvement this year but we’ve not been consistent enough. It’s a strong squad and we should have been doing better than we have.”

He added: “I really hope now we have had a season to gel next season will be better. Every summer we seem to have gone through quite a few changes but I hope next season we will be more settled.”

Following on from last Saturday’s defeat to Peterhead Montrose are now sitting second from bottom in the Third Division table, just one point behind Clyde.

And this Saturday, Montrose will be looking for that ever-elusive win against Queen’s Park at Links Park, kick-off at 3pm.
