Hazlehead United 3 Johnshaven United 3
Third-placed Johnshaven took on second-placed Hazlehead last Saturday.
The home team came out the traps quickest and a great save by Stephen saved Johnshaven from conceding a goal in the second minute.
Johner had a chance after an excellent through-ball from Rausch found Hood, but as the striker got closer his angle was narrowed by the defender and he shot wide.
In 19 minutes a pass from Cruikshank found Hood in acres of space, but his cutback was just behind Smith who had the goal at his mercy.
‘Keeper Stephen again pulled out a wonder save when a Hazlehead winger found himself in on goal, but the ‘keeper dived acrobatically and saved the ball with his trailing foot.
On the stroke of half-time Johnshaven took the lead when Beedie played a through-ball to Lee HOOD who ran in and made no mistake.
Half-time: Hazlehead 0, Johnshaven 1.
Johner nearly doubled their lead but a 25-yard shot from Hood was well saved. They made a change when Leven replaced Cruickshank.
After being awarded a dubious free kick, a Hazlehead man swung in a cross which was powerfully headed home by their striker.
On 70 minutes the same player had a shot saved by Stephen, but his strike partner was alert and smashed home the rebound. Johnshaven made changes when Trialists replaced the injured Steven Scott and exhausted R. Tringham.
In 75th minutes a free kick from Rausch was met by the head of R. BLEASE who steered the ball past the ‘keeper and into the empty net.
With 10 minutes to go Johnshaven made their final change when C. MacLaren replaced Rausch.
Hazlehead looked to have scored the winning goal in the 80th minute after a mix-up at the back resulted in a midfielder scoring.
Johnshaven battled well and C. MacLaren squared the ball to S. BEEDIE who hit a thunderous shot from outside the box to beat the ‘keeper and send the away touchlines into raptures.
Johnshaven had a chance to win at the death but a R. Blease header was cleared off the line.
Both teams are fighting for promotion and Johner missed several players through injuries and work. By the end of the season this result might look like a big point gained.
