Three become two in title race

This week in the Welfare League began with Golf Inn, Hudsons and Fordoun Galaxy all in with a shout of winning the title.

Golf Inn held the advantage with points on the board whilst Hudsons and Fordoun had games in hand.

On Tuesday, Fordoun hit double figures against Hillside who could only raise 10 men to keep themselves in contention.

Golf Inn players watched, hoping Hillside could do them a favour but it was not to be and they left disappointed at half-time as Galaxy won 10-1.

Hudsons hosted Fordoun on Thursday night and started like a train putting on an impressive show for those in attendance including their rivals from the Golf Inn.

Two early goals had the Brechiners in control and that’s how it stayed at half-time. When Hudsons added a third and Fordoun’s ‘keeper was ordered off shortly after the break the game looked over as a contest but Fordoun did pull one back before Hudsons added a fourth to make the final score 4-1.

Hudsons knew their title hopes were in their own hands whilst Fordoun were now relying on favours after only their second league defeat of the season.
On Sunday Hudsons travelled Balwyllo and edged out Northern Vaults in a nine-goal thriller with the final score 5-4 to the visitors.

Meanwhile Golf Inn hosted Fordoun Galaxy who fought hard but conceded on the stroke of half time before conceding three more in the second half to go down 4-0 and cement a third place finish for the Galaxy.
Last night (Tuesday) Hudsons were scheduled to host rivals Old Bolag in a Brechin derby knowing only a win will do.

No doubt the boys from the Golf Inn will pull on their blue training tops and head through to watch, hoping to be crowned champions without kicking a ball.

Should Hudsons get the three points they need it will all come down to Sunday, May 4, when they travel to Broomfield to face Golf Inn. A point would be enough for Golf Inn to retain the title whilst Hudsons need all three points to claim back the title they last won in season 2011/12.
