Montrose Youth Under-13s have just completed their first season at 11-a-side with a sixth placed finish in an 11 team league.

The team really struggled early season to come to terms with the 11 aside game and a very tough fixture list. Only three games were won from the first 10 league all of which came in a very good November for the team.

However the last 10 games saw five wins, four of them coming in the last five league games highlighting the improvement of the team as the season progressed.

The highlight of the season came in March when the team pulled off the only real shock of the league season when they beat one of the league favourites Riverside 5-2 at Kenny Park in a game which will remain in the memory of the players for a long time as they held their own for 70 minutes against a very good side.

The team struggled early on in the season defensively which was worked on as the season progressed but there was never an issue scoring goals with the team netting 87 league goals with top scorer Richie Coull scoring 32.

The season was rounded off with a trip to Perth to play a friendly versus Pitfour where the team played some of the best football of the season and were unlucky to go down 3 -1.

The annual presentation night will be held at the Caledonian Golf Club on June 21.

Manager Gary Greenwood has extended his thanks to kit sponsors local company Sundolitt (general manager Ross Melville) and The Box Shop for their support through the season.
