LUTHERMUIR Women had another tough away game against local rivals Forfar Farmington Ladies at Market Muir. A minute’s silence was held before the game for the great coach, Brian Adamson from Forfar who died late last year.
Within six minutes Luthermuir carved their first chance. A ball thrown in by Young down the right was controlled by Reoch first time and laid back to Young; her first time cross was missed by the Forfar defence and Murison took a touch and fired her shot just wide.
On the quarter hour mark a goal kick from Caney in the Forfar goal was headed back over the defence by Barker where Reoch took a touch but her shot went wide. The Muir continued to control the game and force Forfar on to the backfoot. On 26 minutes a great run by Murison through the heart of the pitch was only stopped when Ritchie took her down 25 yards out. BRUCE hit another trademark free kick over the wall and into the top corner with Caney just getting a slight hand to it before it rippled the net.
Forfar created their first real chance on 30 minutes when good work down the wing by Mulholland and Whyte created a chance for Smith but her shot went wide.
The last chance of the half fell to Reoch when a ball down the wing by Murison to Lownie was passed inside to Reoch but her shot was blocked and cleared.
Half-time: Forfar 0, Luthermuir 1.
Luthermuir had a succession of corners trying to apply pressure but the Forfar defence held firm.
On 65 minutes a good move from Steel, Richie and Mackenzie had Martin away down the wing but a great tackle from Young prevented this from going anywhere.
Good work down the right by Murison for Luthermuir won them a corner on 69 minutes and Bruce whipped a dangerous ball to the back post where MIDDLETON tapped it in.
Luthermuir continued to pass the ball about looking for another opportunity. It came on 76 minutes when a ball behind the back line had Lownie racing to the by line wide on the left. She flicked it over the onrushing defender and headed back to the 18 yard line where BARKER lobbed it over the ‘keeper.
