MCT 3, Fordoun 1

AN ENTERTAINING match was played in blustery conditions at Broomfield where a midfield battle took place.

After a bright opening from both teams it was MCT who drew first blood. Grant Burnett took control of the ball and swung a cross into the box which was fumbled into the net by the Fordoun ‘keeper.

The visitors equalised 10 minutes later when Paul Cargill slipped past two defenders to slot past Laidlaw to make it 1-1.

Half-time: MCT 1, Fordoun 1.

The second half was played at a fast pace but it was MCT who played better in the tough conditions. After 60 minutes the ball broke loose on the edge of the Fordoun box and Luke Myers smashed a sensational strike into the top corner past the despairing ‘keeper.

MCT went further ahead after Grant McPherson took control of the ball from an acute angle, ghosted round two defenders and fired home a superb shot into the corner.

Fordoun battled away and thought they had won a penalty only to see Stirling booked for simulation. Stirling was sent off two minutes later for dissent towards the referee.

With time running out Fordoun laid seige to the MCT box, but couldn’t find a way past the impressive back four. Then in the dying moments Laidlaw made a fantastic stop to keep the score at 3-1.
