Women in great pre-season start

Tayside Ladies 1 Luthermuir Women 2

Luthermuir Women had a free day so travelled to play Tayside Ladies FC in a friendly to keep players match fit for the league game away to Elgin next week.

Luthermuir started the brighter and had a chance in the first minute when Brough sprayed the ball down the right wing and Lownie crossed but Boyack put her shot just wide.

On nine minutes a quick corner with Bruce and Mowatt had the home team all at sea.

Tayside Ladies had a couple of breaks but Charles was comfortable and dealt well with any shot that came her way.

On 34 minutes a free kick was whipped over by Oliphant and Lownie bundled it home, but this was ruled out because of an arm on the way over the line.

The Muir made the break-through on 36 minutes when Lownie was chopped down. Oliphant fired the ball over to the back post and BOYACK ghosted by the defence to head in unmarked.

Within three minutes Luthermuir doubled their lead when Murison was taken down by two home players 30 yards out. Bruce floated the cross in to the danger area and a defender scooped the ball in the air, first to react was BROUGH who headed home.

Half-time: Tayside 0, Luthermuir 2.

With a few players carrying knocks and no subs available most managed to carry on but Mowatt hobbled off after 55 minutes with a knee injury leaving Luthermuir with ten players.

On 72 minutes a great cross by Murison found Lownie but she blazed her shot over the bar.

Bruce whipped over the ball from a corner and Lownie laid it off again to Brough but her shot went well over. Tayside broke upfield and the ball fell to the edge of the box where it was fired over Charles.

This gave the home side a lift and they pushed forward to get the equaliser but the Muir defence held strong. Oliphant had a head knock and had to go off but a player from last year, Shona Forrester, stepped in to save the team going down to nine. Tayside tried numerous ways to break down the defence but with the hard working midfield of Boyack and Brough they had only long shots which were comfortable for Charles and the game came to an end on a very cold day.
