THE FORECASTS had been scrutinised daily, as members of Montrose Sailing Club anticipated the Tea by the Sea event for Sail 4 Cancer.

The strong and gusting southerly wind put paid to an idyllic afternoon of tea and posh cakes, sitting outside viewing the Basin and the sailing. Flying gazebos earlier meant the clubhouse cafe was in use.

Despite all that a total of £298 was raised for the cancer charity.

There was even a sail afterwards, with boats frequently planing downwind with the waves. Results: 1, Lindsay Petrie and Douglas Craig (Wayfarer), 2, Colin Dickson (Laser), 3, Bryan Locke and Roger Murray (GP14).

Next sailing will be a pursuit race on Tuesday evening, and again next weekend. The following weekend, June 4 and 5, is an opportunity for anyone interested in trying sailing to come along to a free Open Day.
