Johnshaven travelled to Echt to play the league leaders without ailing manager Pete Williams and three experienced players who were unavailable.
In the 14th minute Johnshaven had a scoring chance when the ball was played through to C. Spink but his shot was blocked by the advancing Echt keeper.
In the 27th minute Echt attacked down the left then played the ball into the 18-yard box. Johnshaven failed to clear and the ball fell nicely for the Echt player who shot and scored.
Five minutes later a long clearance found the head of an Echt player who headed towards the goal, allowing his teammate who was running in to have the final, scoring, touch.

Couineaux-Rice replaced an injured Bailey and Craig replaced Beedie, then in the 57th minute Sword replaced C. Spink.
On the hour Echt hit Johnshaven down the right then cut in and slammed home goal number three.
Shortly after, a shot from Echt rebounded off the inside of the post but the quick reaction of Johnshaven keeper Spink pushed the ball away from an advancing Echt player.
In the 66th minute Stephen ran 10 yards to the half-way line where he spotted the Echt keeper off his line and unleashed a powerful shot which screamed into the bottom corner.
Johnshaven held out for 20 minutes before the next Echt goal. Then came the home side’s final counter from a low cross.
It was always going to be a hard game against the league leaders and while the first half performance was not Johnshaven’s greatest, there was a marked improvement in the second.
