Hickory Open moves to Montrose
THIS YEAR’S World Hickory Open golf championship is moving to Montrose after the success of the 2012 competition in Monifieth and Carnoustie.
It will begin with an optional warm-up stableford competition at Monifieth Ashludie on September 30, followed by two rounds played across Montrose Medal on October 1 and 2. The event will also include a malt whisky tasting and a gala dinner.
Lionel Freedman, World Hickory Open chairman, said: “The 2012 event, which was played across Monifieth Medal and Carnoustie Burnside, was superb. Over 90 amateur and professional golfers from across the globe thoroughly enjoyed playing hickory golf on these first class links courses, the choice of accommodation was very good and the support we received from the Carnoustie Country team was second to none.
“Returning for the 2013 World Hickory Open was a very easy decision to make.”
