Life on the Links #3

Well sitting in front of the television, watching the final round of the first major of the year, it strikes me just how perfectly manicured Augusta National is.

Every season it is always presented in awesome condition, think the slopes and the speed of the greens might be beyond my capabilities.

Our own Links is in fantastic shape at the moment and our staff are always working hard to achieve this, early summer starts are commonplace as they prepare the links for all the golfers who dare to dream.

Please feel free to visit our fabulous website to keep up with all the goings on of a busy season.

I also hope that the many youngsters that will watch the Masters this year will be inspired like I was way back in 1986 when Jack Nicklaus won in dramatic style from the legend Seve Ballesteros.

To those youngsters who are inspired by what they are watching, Montrose Links will be hosting a club golf camp in July. This is an ideal week long golf camp to get youngsters involved in all that Golf has to offer. Please book your place by following the link and remember spaces are limited so be quick!

Also, as I watch some of the worlds best players trying to be the best at Augusta, it just shows what regular tuition can do. These guys all have an army of people around them and work extremely hard to produce their best work.

Regular lessons and a plan to work on all aspects of your golf game would not only improve your skills but ensure your enjoyment would be at a maximum.

Myself, Graeme and Mark are always on hand for advice and would like to be given the chance to work towards improving your handicaps.

Mercantile member Neil Galloway said: “A proper plan and regular lessons allowing for change and consistency have allowed me to gradually reduce my handicap and therefore get greater enjoyment and a real sense of achievement.”

So ask yourself, what are your aims and goals for this season, and how can we help to achieve this?

Even as simple as putting; how many putts did you have in your last round? When did you have a putting lesson?

If you can average four shots a round better think how much lower your handicap would be !

Next time I will discuss how modern technology really does improve your game and will introduce the first example of how to play certain shots.
