Montrose’s top team, under the stewardship of Jen Richardson in Tayside Division Two, are competing well.
Their first game away to Perth resulted in a great win, then they had a draw against a very strong Games Club.
However, it was an uphill battle against Tayport’s first team and the Montrose side was narrowly defeated 4-5.
Players were Marta Krauze, Jen Richardson, Linda Cuthill, Rachel Myles, Caroline Stewart, Nicky Whitecross, Andy Moffat, Brian Wright, George Baxter and Chad Neighbor.
Montrose team two, under match secretary Rhona Alston and playing in Division Three, had a great win over Arbroath Two, 7-2.
They then lost 2-7 against league leaders Lundin Links.
However, in their third match Montrose won 7-2 over St Andrews Two.
Team players to date are Barbara Watson, Jane Cargill, Rachel Myles, Rhona Alston, Dawn Bradley, Stephen West, Murray Pert, Andy Baxter and Fraser McGlynn.
Montrose team three, with match secretary Diane Forbes and competing in Division Four, have had a frustrating start to the season with play being called off at clubs with clay surfaces.
However, their first game got under way on Monday and result went to Perth Two. Local players were Diane Forbes, Wendy Sanger, Corrina Gow, Ewan McCulloch, Chris Hardy and Stuart Matthews.
The exciting news is that national and international coach, Mark Walker, returns to Montrose to undertake a developing week schedule at the club.
His younger brother Graeme Walker is known to all in the area as the club coach and he is excited about welcoming his brother’s skills.
This will enable youngsters from near and far and adults, too, to get the opportunity of coaching from Mark.
The coaching week will begin on Monday, August 6 and run until Friday, August 10. The timings of the sessions will be 10 to 11am adult beginners, 11am to noon adult improvers, noon to 1pm individual. Then 2 to 3.30pm junior squads, 3.30 to 5pm junior squads and 6 to 8pm adult team players.
The costs will be £4 per member and £5 for non-members. Adult team players will be £6 for a session. There will be a notice in the clubhouse for people to sign up with this programme.
Montrose Tennis Club is very much looking forward to this big event.
The tennis club is open to members of the public from 2 to 8pm Monday to Friday and 2 to 4pm on weekends.
Summer camps are continuing to be very busy - it is a great way for the children to have coaching over the summer.
