Montrose barber and former Scottish Champion Bruce Birnie returned to the Knockhill circuit at the weekend for the opening rounds of the 2016 Knockhill Motor Sports Club and Scottish Championships.
He took part two races in several classes dovetailing as rounds two and three of the Scottish Championships.
It was a testing weekend for Bruce, as this was his first outing of the season on his new BMW S1000RR bike, which is sponsored by Carnegie Fuels, Snowdrop Developments, P & S Hosie and BMW Motorrad Central.
This meant that Bruce was busy between races setting up the new bike for the forthcoming season.
In the battle for the KMSC Championship title, the weekend’s action Bruce takes up the third spot on the standings after three third placed podiums on Sunday.
He said: “Those young lads up the front have been on their bikes for the past couple of months and mines has just rolled out the shed for the first time. Let’s just say if we can tag onto the back of them, we won’t by shy in trying a move. It’s early days and let’s just see what happens.”
Ashley Robson was competing on her Phill G Services sponsored Kawasaki ZXR400 in the Scottish Lightweight Series.
In her two races on the Saturday she finished in 11th and 13th places.
On Sunday she again rode well and saw her performance improve with each race and in her first two races she finished in 11th and 10th.
