The Under-15 squad from Angus Girls Rugby Hub in Montrose headed to Tranent last weekend for the Brewin Dolphin Under-15 qualifier day.
To support the evolving Girls Rugby Hub in Kinross, four of their players joined the Angus squad to play 13-a-side matches on a full size pitch.
Due to unexpected road works, the girls arrived with only 15 minutes before their first tie against Oban Lorne. This was a close game and Oban Lorne won by just two points. As the girls progressed through the pool stages, their tackling improved and they started to link effectively between forwards and backs. They won all of their remaining pool games against Dumfries and a combined Crieff/Ayr side.
Once all of the points were added up, the Angus girls were drawn against Oban Lorne in the final – a rerun of their first match. Showing great composure and excellent skills, Angus won the match 14-10. This means that the Angus Hub will be playing in the National Shield Final in March.
Findlay Christie, girls’ coach, said: “We were delighted with the way the girls played today. The Angus Hub has been established in Montrose for less than a year so it is amazing that our Under-15s will be playing in a National final.”
