ANGUS Council Sports Development Team provided children aged between six and 12 years with the chance to take part in the Aviva Startrack Athletics programme at Montrose Academy last week.
This was the reintroduction of the programme in Montrose and it will be returning next year due to the success. The camp had 19 youngsters put through their paces on various track and field disciplines.
By running the Aviva Startrack Athletics programme Angus Council Sports Development Team hope to raise the profile of athletics amongst young athletes and their parents in the community and Introduce children to the sport in a fun and exciting format.
Sports development officer Laura Baxter said “With the current interest with the London 2012 Olympics we hope to encourage more young people to become involved and to stay in the sport, with Aviva Startrack being a brilliant way to help promising youngsters access other steps on the athletics ladder. We also look to help children to improve athletic skills/disciplines in a relaxed and fun environment so that they have the confidence to progress and give them the opportunity to improve their performance.”
Further Aviva Startrack camps are being held across Angus throughout the summer. For more information visit www.angus.gov.uk/leisure or contact your local leisure facility, or go to the Angus Leisure Facebook page at www.facebook.com/angusleisure.
