Montrose barber and former 2012 Scottish Superbike Champion Bruce Birnie made a successful return to the Knockhill Circuit to compete in the weekend’s reverse direction meeting, writes William Wheelans.

He was competing on his Carnegie Fuels sponsored 1000cc BMW S1000RR.

Despite high winds and rain on the Saturday, which made riding conditions difficult, Bruce qualified in sixth position on the grid and in his two races that day came fourth in both races.

Sunday saw an improvement in the weather and a dry track, which obviously suited Bruce and the other competitors and this was evident with his results.

With his usual determination and stylish riding he secured first position in all his three races, his best performance being in his last race of the day when he produced a best lap time of the 1.267 mile Knockhill circuit of 50.914 seconds.
