Canadian visitors at home on ice

Tayside & Fife Under-18 Girls 0 BCI High, Ontario 15

TAYSIDE & Fife Under-18s took on BCI High at Montrose RFC. BCI High are a touring team from Canada and their country’s reigning Under-18 champions.

The game kicked off in extremely cold conditions, with snow still lying on areas of the pitch.

The Canadian side instantly went on the attack and showed some great tight play, with pick and goes from the back of rucks, then showing great handling skills.

They pushed the ball wide which brought their first try from their outside centre. Conversion missed.

The Tayside & Fife girls made a number of very good attacks of their own, with some explosive runs from their number eight off the back of a dominant scrum.

However, with a dominant line-out BCI High regained control of the game and their number eight powered through a stubborn Tayside & Fife defence to score under the posts. Conversion missed.

Half-time: T&F 0, BCI 10.

The second half started similar to the first with the Canadian side making the hard yards with their forwards before passing the ball wide. However, the home side’s defence stood like a brick wall which the Canadians could not knock down.

The Tayside & Fife girls had a number of their own attacks and showed off some strong running skills but they just could not cross the Canadian try line. The game finished with a final score from the Canadians.

With the game played in such cold conditions, both sides performed extremely well and played some great attacking rugby. The Tayside & Fife girls will have learned a lot from playing a very experienced Canadian side. There is a lot of work being done in Tayside & Fife to develop the girls’ game and performances such as this prove it is extremely worthwhile.
