THE GULL menace which had nearly caused a disaster last year was not repeated as 21 rinks took part in the annual Hope Paton Holiday Fours.

Previous winners of the trophy were eliminated by the semi-final, leaving the final contested with the unusual but pleasing situation of two Montrose BC players in a rink skipped by Hope Paton’s Ron Blacklaws, against three Hope Paton members led by Montrose’s Bob Christie!

Good play from both teams made the match worthy of a Hope Paton final with Ron Blacklaws’ side looking promising in the early stages. However, the Christie team took control and by mid- match held a commanding lead, eventually finishing seven shots to the good.

Result: Wattie MacRae, Brian Cuthbertson, Bill Johnston and Ron Blacklaws 9, David Pirie, Dave Murray, Sandy Reid and Bob Christie 16.

President John Paton thanked sponsors GSK and the Woodville Inn, Kirriemuir, and all who had contributed to this year’s success.
