THE INCH Bowling Club Open Pairs, sponsored by Guthrie Brothers, started last Sunday in brilliant sunshine.

The tournament continued all week, culminating with the final on Thursday evening.

This was contested between the host club’s Bert Mackie and Charlie Gordon, against Hillside BC pair George Robertson and Eric Morris.

George and Eric took an early lead but were soon pegged back by Bert and Charlie who led 12-4 after a surge of nine shots over three ends.

Not to be outdone George and Eric fought back with five shots of their own to reduce the deficit to 12-9.

Two singles made the score 14-9 with one end to play. It looked all over with George and Eric needing five shots to force an extra end and they almost did it but only managed to get four shots leaving Bert and Charlie winners by a single shot at 14-13.

Inch BC president Ken Marvelley invited George Mitchell of sponsor Guthrie Bros to present the trophy and prizes to the winners and runners-up, and also to semi-finalists Willie Whyte and Danny McKenzie, and Ian and Stan West.

The president then proposed a vote of thanks to everyone who contributed to another successful week before announcing the raffle winners. There were two unclaimed, and the numbers were 743 and 897, both white with blue borders. They can be claimed at the Inch green most evenings.

Next Tuesday the Inch Fours play Arbroath in the Forfarshire at Inch, and on Wednesday Inch Triples and Singles play their Forfarshire ties also at Inch.
