Another aspect of the history of golf in Montrose is planned for Sunday as part of the celebrations marking the 450th anniversary of the sport at the Links.
Lynn Coull, from the 450 Committee, explained: “A golf match between Montrose Ladies and Aberdeen Ladies will take place on the Medal Course.
“It will be similar to the many matches played between the clubs from 1893.”
Montrose Ladies would take the train up to Aberdeen and a week later Aberdeen Ladies would come to Montrose. The clubs were thriving, with Montrose Ladies considered the best in the country.
Aberdeen Ladies still exists as a club, so 12 of them will come to Montrose. The Montrose team will be made up of four members from each of the three golf clubs in the town, to play as a team for the day.”
