SCOTTISH triathlete Ritchie Nicholls notched up a ‘breakthrough’ performance in London in the climax of the British Triathlon Super Series on Sunday.
The 24-year-old from Montrose enjoyed a convincing win at the Virgin Active London Triathlon, the final event of the five race series, which started at Strathclyde Park in May.
Clawing back a 25-second deficit from the swim and bike sections, the Stirling-based triathlete chased down the leaders with a strong run to cross the line a minute clear of fellow Brit Adam Bowden.
He said: “It feels like a breakthrough performance. I had some really good races a few years ago, but since then I’ve struggled to get back. Hopefully this is a new start. Things have been a bit on and off with illnesses and I was actually sick on Friday so I wasn’t going to come down to London, but I’m glad I did now.”
