Seventeen members from the Boydell Blackbelt Academies (Hillside, Inverbervie and Stonehaven) travelled to Stratford Upon Avon recently to compete in the English National Taekwon-Do Championships.
The team left from Stonehaven on an epic 10-hour coach journey on the Saturday, they all then competed at the competition all day Sunday to then return the following day by coach.
The journey there and back was great fun and was plenty of time to introduce the junior team member to the motivational Rocky films!
At the competition members performed exceptionally well and although not every member won a medal the following won medals in their specific grade/age category.
In the Under-12s category, Lewis Garden, the youngest member (6), won silver in the sparring and pattern divisions. He also won gold in his high kick event.
Brodie Petrie won silver in the pattern division and two golds for sparring and high kick.
Harry Coleman won bronze for patterns, Jack Shaw won silver for pattern and a gold for high kick. Rowan Nilssen won silver in sparring and Abbie Simmers won bronze in the same category. Ethan Boydell won gold in his sparring division.
From the teenage team members, Jodie Boydell won two bronze medals in patterns and sparring, Katie Louise Davidson won bronze for pattern and silver for sparring, whilst Danni Simmers won two silvers for pattern and sparring.
The only senior (+40 years) competitor was Garry Smith who won bronze in his sparring division.
Other members of the team were instructor and umpire Mark Boydell, Gavin Shaw, Ryan Smith, Owen Garden, Harvey Brett and Joe Burns (not pictured).
In total six bronze, eight silver and five gold medals headed north of the border, a fantastic effort from the Boydell Blackbelt Academy members!
