Women’s rugby

SCOTLAND’S women rugby players took on Italy Women at the weekend.

This Six Nations game was played at Dundee and local players were invited to take part in the day. Prior to the match a number of Montrose players took part in a Girls’ development session run by Scottish Rugby.

Three Montrose players were asked to be part of the guard of honour for the match. Morgan Thomson and Joanna Hall were flag bearers and Shona Campbell was mascot for Scotland Women.

Shona said: “I really enjoyed going out with the team and singing Flower of Scotland. I was quite nervous but Susie Brown, the Scotland captain, was really nice. I was given a Scotland strip and tracksuit. I will keep training and playing so hopefully get a chance to play for Scotland some day.”

There will be a girls’ rugby tournament in Montrose on Saturday, March 16, for Under-15s and Under-18s across Scotland.
