Montrose-based band If All Else Fails launched their debut album this month which stormed into the iTunes charts within an hour of its release.

The local rock band released their album, ‘Introspective’, which was recorded in the town, online on August 2 and within an hour of it being on sale it had entered the iTunes metal chart.

The album rose steadily throughout the day and eventually peaked at an impressive number nine on the chart, leapfrogging top albums by rock legends Iron Maiden and Motorhead in the process.

Drummer Jamie Kinghorn said: “‘Introspective’ was released at midnight so we all stayed up to watch it chart. But we couldn’t believe the way it rocketed up the charts.

“By the time we all got up in the morning it had hit the top 10 – we were stunned!”

Reviews soon started coming in, with some listeners giving it five stars.

One iTunes user described the album as “vintage metal with a modern twist”, while another called it a “powerful album from start to finish”.

The big day wasn’t over for the band - they held a free launch party at B@r, Hume Street, that evening, featuring Late Landing and Millsyeck, as well as If All Else Fails themselves.

Demand for the album remained high, with CDs selling all evening and the performances by all the bands being well received.

The band is now preparing to take their music to new audiences, with gigs booked in Aberdeen, Perth and Glasgow over the coming months.

And, according to Kinghorn, that is just the beginning. “We have some great gigs lined up, with more in the planning stages.

“We are really proud of ‘Introspective’ and want to take it as far as we can.

“The band are very excited about the next few months!”
