A NEW exhibition space has been opened up in Montrose to provide a free venue for established and emerging artists to showcase their work.

The project is a collaboration between Kim Canale, who runs exhibition company Wall Projects, and local architect Kerry Smith, of Studio4, who has opened up part of her John Street office to provide wall space.

Kim, who runs her own home gallery, said the venture gives local people an opportunity to see the work of artists from outwith the area.

She said: “It’s a coming together of two small arts businesses to introduce another venue for them. It’s a great chance for the artists and for people, who maybe don’t want to go to a home gallery, to see a high-end art exhibition.”

The current featured artist is Arbroath-born Susan Winton. A graduate of Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and, in a varied career she earned a scholarship residence at Hospitafield House in Arbroath. Two years ago she, along with Kim, were awarded the Richard Demarco prize in 2009 at Angus College’s Scottish Painting Competition.
