Platform One at the Bridge of Dun railway station is to be given a musical makeover when Inverness band Dorec-a-Belle perform this weekend.
Dorec-a-belle are a four-piece, all-female, indie folk/roots band, comprising four-part harmony vocals with guitar, sax, cello and accordion.
Since forming in 2011, the band have performed around the Highlands and West Coast of Scotland and at numerous big events, including the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and a performance on the main stage at The Wickerman Festival,
They also won the Herald’s Best Unsigned Band competition in 2013. But the band’s career highlight to date was playing at Highland Council’s Inverness City Hogmanay Party to a capacity audience of 9000.
Blair Winton, from the Caledonian Railway, explained: “There’s a big following for live music locally and at the railway we have a completely unique setting, so we think it will be something different.
“We had the chance to bring in Dorec-a-belle, who have played a lot of gigs mainly around Inverness and over on the West Coast, so we hope people will be keen to come and see them while they’re here in the North East.”
The station is set in countryside close to local landmarks such as the Bridge of Dun, Montrose Basin and House of Dun.
The platform sits in the shadow of a magnificent line of mature trees believed to have been planted at the request of Queen Victoria who often stopped off at the station on the way to holidaying at Balmoral.
With the stage set, Dorec-a-belle will begin a two-hour show, before returning by train to Brechin.
It is hoped that if the event is well supported, musical performances could become a regular occurrence.
Blair added: “The volunteers do a lot of events for kids, so its great to be able to do something that interests adults too.
“We’re going to see how well supported the first night is, but we hope it could take its place alongside our regular summer evening events like the Murder Mystery and Fish and Chip nights.”
