The Song Shop is proud to present “Jesus Christ Superstar” as its end of year production, from Wednesday, June 29 June to Saturday, July 2, in Montrose Town Hall.
Based on a concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, this rock opera tells the story of the final six days in the life of Jesus, through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples.
Over two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ is being hailed as the messiah of Judea. Nervous about losing their power, the Romans, with the help of Judas, find and arrest Jesus and crucify him. The musical covers the events of Palm Sunday, healing the sick, Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, his trial, flogging, and crucifixion.
The show contains many well known songs including “What’s the Buzz”, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and the title song “Superstar”.
Going head to head in the principal roles are three talented brothers from Montrose who have featured in many Song Shop productions: Chris Tomlinson (Judas), Matthew Tomlinson (Jesus) and Nick Tomlinson (Pilate).
Portraying the challenging role of Mary Magdalene is Heather Robertson, whose previous work with The Song Shop has been backstage. Supported by a vibrant Company of talented youngsters and adults and a talented clutch of principals from Montrose, Arbroath, Brechin and Laurecekirk, the show is shaping up to be one of The Song Shop’s finest productions.
The show is directed and choreographed by Kenny Christie whose talents are shown to the full in the “Superstar” and “Herod’s Song”.
Tickets are now on sale from Henry Hogg’s Newsagent, High Street, Montrose or from The Song Shop on 01674 673236.
