Trad Angus Music Sessions

THE next Trad Angus Summer Session is at Glen Clova Hotel, Glen Clova on Sunday, August 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Music will be provided by Roy Henderson, Mike Lean, Nigel Jelks, Jim Penny, Niel Jelks and friends with fiddles, songs, mandolines, guitars, concertina and bodhran

There will be some grand old, and some exciting newer fiddle tunes with fine songs and arrangements from Roy and Jim. On Tuesday, August 28, at 8 p.m. the session will be at Three Bellies Brae, Kirriemuir with local musicians plus guest fiddle maestro, Karen Hannah (pictured right).

For the past 10 years Karen, as a professional musician, has entertained tourists in venues ranging from small venues in St Andrews during the St Andrews week festival to corporate events and prestigious hotels such as Gleneagles, Fairmont and The Old Course Hotels.

Her music has also seen her travelling the world, representing Scotland in New Zealand, Ireland, Romania, Sardinia, Germany, Poland, South Korea, Spain, France, Denmark and Belgium - presenting an image of a country rich in traditional culture, but forward looking and exciting. Karen performs with numerous professional bands and ensembles both at home and abroad including Randan, Moonzie Allstars, Broon Troot Orchestra, Sporran Again and Ceilidh Minogue to name just a few, with appearances at Celtic Connections and the Interceltique Festival at Lorient, Brittany – plus sessions, local parties and weddings throughout Scotland.

In demand as a music tutor, teaching at the Wighton Heritage centre in Dundee for six years and also teach privately and at various festivals and events. Known affectionately as The Tune Monster, Karen has a grand repertoire of music and will lead the informal session. These are open sessions, you are welcome to join in with a song or a tune, or just listen and enjoy the rich and diverse traditional music of Angus.
