A MONTROSE performer and composer is hoping to garner local support as he bids to win financial backing for a new stage musical.
Llandyll Gove finished touring with ‘Grease’ in January and since then, has moved down to London where he is now co-writing a new musical called ‘Iron Road’.
Set in New York and America in the 1840s, it tells the true story of Irish immigrants arriving in America and their involvement in the development of the railways, coupled with the evolution of tap dance.
Llandyll said: “It’s a very exciting project to be working on. I’ve written a lot of songs over the last five years for various other things, but to be working on a full-scale musical is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
At the same time, a competition has been announced in London to find a new musical, which will be chosen by the public and eventually backed by professional producers.
‘Search for a Twitter Composer’ encourages writers to submit samples of projects on which they are currently working, with entries put up for a public vote through the social networking site Twitter.
Voting, which opened on Monday, will continue this week and the top 12 musicals will go through to two semi-final concerts where their material will be showcased.
A panel of professionals will then decide which three shows will go through to the final. The final stage will be a concert in London in July to find the overall winner
Llandyll and co-writers Antony Irwin and Greg Faulkner have submitted the opening number from ‘Iron Road’ – ‘Land Of Freedom’, which can be found on Youtube by searching for ‘Land of Freedom Iron Road’.
Alternatively, it can be found on the competition website www.westendproducer.co.uk in the submissions page.
Voting closes this Sunday, May 12.
Llandyll said: “I would love for people to get online and vote and get behind the show. It would be greatly appreciated.”
Llandyll also plans to stage a show in Montrose in the near future, an evening of his songs with some top west end and local performers.
Votes can be cast at www.westendproducer.co.uk on the website’s ‘vote’ section, in which Antony Irwin and Llandyll Gove will be listed.
